Guest Emcee: Shá Cage!
Punch Out Poetry is proud to announce that Minnesota Spoken Word Association’s Sha Cage is guest hosting our March 26th slam! Sha is a community organizer, playwright, actor, spoken word performer, and educator.
Her work and activism has taken her all across the U.S, to South Africa, England, France, the Netherlands, Belgrade and Croatia, Mali, and Canada. She is Artistic Director of the MN Spoken Word Association and a founder of MaMa mOsAiC Theater for Women. She was recently named a 2009 ‘Change-maker’ by the Women’s Press and won the Urban Griots ‘Female Spoken Word Artist’ of the year award.
Cage’s performance is a striking mix of spoken word and theatre. Her work often questions inequality, class, and gender issues and is rooted in the rhythms of her native Natchez, Mississippi.
The past few years marked television commercials with Parade of Homes and KARE 11, Twin Cities artist of the year mentions in theater, an international tour in England, and the female spoken word voice in Target’s ‘Art Connects’ national commercial campaign; launched on the ’08 BET awards. She was invited to perform at the Media Reform Conference alongside Dan Rather and Amy Goodman and released her debut album ‘Amber People’, with Tru Ruts/Speakeasy records.
She is the recipient several grants and fellowships including… and her poems were recently published with the Family Housing Fund’s traveling exhibit ‘Home Sweet Home’ as well as in the London Times.
